To Spin Or Not To Spin... Part 3(The Finale!)

Today I was having lunch with my mom, dad, and a friend. I was telling the story and again everyone laughed. I was leaving lunch and checked my mail on my iPhone. To my surprise there was an email sent to me that was all about buying my own "beginner's set." I then immediately went home and told my husband and finally his response was "I'm probaby going to regret this, but I wouldn't be opposed to you adding a piece of spinning furniture to our home as long as we can keep the house cleaned up." I was exploding with excitement and began searching for my new toy. I won't jump right in with a huge expense, but I can start dreaming, right?

To Spin or Not to Spin Part 2

Fast forward to a gathering with friends a few days later and I'm retelling the story. My husband interrupts and says that at the very moment the words were exiting his mouth he remembered telling me "no" and was quickly regretting speaking. Everyone laughed and still nothing was said...

To Spin or Not to Spin... Part I

About a year ago I told my husband that I wanted to start spinning my own yarn. This news was met with a stern "NO, YOU HAVE TOO MANY HOBBIES ALREADY." Okay, so slightly disappointed I re-focused my efforts onto hobbies I currently did have. (Not too many, just a variety) Last week my husband and I were walking the streets of Solvang and saw a spinning wheel in the window. No kidding the words out of my husband's mouth were, "Have you ever thought about spinning your own yarn?" I looked at him with a gaping wide mouth and questioning eyes. What the ...? "Yes, Yes," I wanted to shout. Instead I casually told him about the time I asked and he told me "no." The discussion ended...

Delay in Etsy

I've hit a few snags in getting my Etsy site up and running. I'm also revitalizing my www.jenniferburgan.com address. I promise as soon as things are up and running I will let you know.

It has been a busy summer. I decided to get a head start on Christmas this year and I have already completed four Christmas presents. My goal is to be done with Christmas presents by Thanksgiving. This would allow me the time to relax and enjoy wrapping gifts this year.

I've also been busy working on improving my little trailer (SoCal Gal - 1966 Serro Scotty Sportsman). If you'd like to see my progress, check out socalgal.blogspot.com.

Holidays

Every year I think the holidays will be different. I anticipate some bumps in the road, but I think that my family will all magically get along, I will feel the love from my hubby’s family, and there will be peace on earth. You would think that after 34 years on earth I would know better. As soon as Thanksgiving hits, the family goes into panic mode. “Oh my gosh! What do I get Chris?” or “I don’t want to have to deal with ______,” are common remarks. I often feel like I’m pulled in different directions and expected to answer perfectly to everyone’s questions. Well I’m sorry to say that God did not give me the gift of perfection. He did however arrange for me to become irritable and want to take a vacation, no family, no friends, just my hubby and me. Do you ever feel that Christmas has become about the gifts? My husband and I have talks about how materialistic our society has become and how it increases my disappoint in the holidays each year. I remember looking back now, how Christmas used to be fun and exciting. We got to spend time with all of our family and I always enjoyed seeing the joy in people’s eyes when they got a special gift. What happened to the times when a homemade gift brought a tear to someone’s eye because it was so special? Or how watching a child experience the joy of the season made you feel warm inside? This holiday season take some time for yourself and don’t let the hustle and bustle of the season overwhelm you. Spend time remembering a happy holiday moment and try to hold on to that feeling. If all else fails, flee with incredible speed to an undisclosed location! Happy Holidays!

Last Minute Presents

It's that time of the year when we hustle to buy or finish making those last minute presents. This year I got most of my holiday making and shopping done early. I did however have a last minute idea to finish a present for my sister that is 10 years in the making. It has been quite an undertaking and the added stress that it must be done by Thursday this week. Although it has been a major project, the excitement grows when I see what I have accomplished. I will be sure to share once the holiday has passed. How are your last minute plans coming along?
